Authentication

All JamBase Data API requests require authentication using a Bearer token.

Getting an API Key

There are two ways get a JamBase Data API key:

Start a free trial for immediate access
Subscribe to a plan for production use

Manage your keys in your account dashboard.

All API requests must include two request headers:

Authorization Bearer token
User-Agent Your app identifier

Keeping Your Key Secure

Keep your API key secret — never expose it in client-side code, public repositories, or browser requests
Use environment variables — store keys outside your codebase to prevent accidental exposure
Rotate keys if compromised — generate a new key from your dashboard immediately if exposure is suspected

When authentication fails, the API returns standard HTTP error codes with details.

Status	Error Type	Details
`401`	`unauthorized`	CauseThe API key is missing, malformed, or not recognized. FixVerify your Authorization header uses the format: Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY. Check the key for typos.
	`key-revoked`	CauseThe API key has been revoked and can no longer be used. FixGenerate a new API key from your dashboard.
	`key-expired`	CauseThe API key has expired. FixGenerate a new API key from your dashboard.
	`subscription-inactive`	CauseThe subscription associated with this API key is no longer active. FixReactivate your subscription to restore API access.
	`subscription-not-found`	CauseNo subscription is linked to this API key. FixGenerate a new API key from an active subscription, or contact support.
	`trial-expired`	CauseThe trial period for this API key has ended. FixSubscribe to a paid plan to continue access.
`403`	`forbidden`	CauseAccess to this resource is not allowed with your current permissions. FixCheck that your API key has the required permissions.
	`subscription-required`	CauseNo active subscription found for this API key. FixSubscribe to a plan to access the API.
	`plan-feature-required`	CauseThis feature requires a higher-tier plan. FixUpgrade your plan to access this feature.
	`date-window-exceeded`	CauseThe requested future date is beyond your plan's allowed window. FixUpgrade your plan for extended date access, or use a closer date.
	`historical-window-exceeded`	CauseThe requested past date is beyond your plan's allowed historical window. FixUpgrade your plan for extended historical access, or use a more recent date.
